A Home on the Field is the true story of a small town, a team of immigrant kids, and the changing face of America.
A Home on the Field
Is about faith, loyalty, and trust. In the tradition of Stand and Deliver and Hoosiers, it's a story of one team and their accidental coach who became certain heroes to the whole community. For the past ten years, Siler City, NC, has been at the front lines of immigration. At enormous risk, Latino workers and their families have come to work in the poultry-processing industry to catch their piece of the American Dream. When reporter Paul Cuadros, also a son of a Latino immigrant, moved to the South to tell this story, he encountered a culture-clash between the long-time residents and the newcomers. It became Paul's goal to show the growing number of Latino youth that their lives could be more than the cutting line at the poultry plant. Soccer was the way to reach them. But in a town where high school football was king, it would be an uphill battle just to get a varsity team put together. Suffering setbacks and heartbreak, the majority Latino team, in only three seasons, emerged poised to win the state championship.
